This collaboration centers on the theme of Yamata no Orochi, largely because the mythical creature itself is associated with alcohol. According to early Japanese tales, to quell Yamata no Orochi's rampage, people created eight giant jars filled with sake as an offering to the serpent.
Thus, I designed a jar shape above the main body of Yamata no Orochi, placing a whiskey in the center to symbolize the power of alcohol suppressing the Orochi. The surface of the jar is engraved with Ukiyo-e flame patterns and Sanada Yukimura's six coins, symbolizing an indomitable spirit.
In Ukiyo-e art, Yamata no Orochi typically shows only three to four heads, with the rest obscured by seawater, presenting a half-dragon, half-serpent image. Therefore, I decided to use a Plesiosaur from the dinosaur era as the base, adding ancient serpent heads and massive arms to make the serpent's heads more prominent. The other heads are designed on the body, each with differently curved necks to give a sense of depth without making the overall design too complex.
I added details of Japanese samurai shoulder guards to the chest of each serpent, giving a tough armored feel, as if protecting them. The back of the main body replaces snake scales with gold coins to add elements of wealth and dominance. The tip of the tail actually features a skull of Yamata no Orochi, with a rattlesnake's rattle hidden inside when flipped.
Of course, an important element of DemonCraft - the skull - is also included, hidden under the main body and visible only when the entire serpent is flipped over. One of the serpent heads is designed to be on a sake bottle, symbolizing that Yamata no Orochi is complete only when the bottle is inserted.
This piece is composed of 48 parts, with the serpent necks using ball joints, allowing collectors to adjust them as they like. This creation was filled with challenges, especially in terms of soft vinyl, but I am thrilled to have realized my own version of Yamata no Orochi. I also want to thank everyone for their support, allowing me to materialize the Japanese yokai in my heart and promote it worldwide.
